Yahoo Answers For Black Vinyl Records
Question Are black vinyl records better than colored?
I've heard/seen a lot of back and forth arguments on this subject, I'd like to know once and for all =D The argument for black vinyl (virgin vinyl or something similar I've been told it was called) being better is that the sound quality is superior to colored wax, less surface noise/feedback supposedly. Also that it supposedly lasts longer. Then I was told by others that color is irrelevant when it comes to sound quality. When it comes down to it, it's all about the quality of the original master, or recording. Also, they are made of the same exact thing despite the color difference so why would one last longer than the other? I've heard people say they only buy black vinyl for listening purposes because of the two reasons I said (sounds better, lasts longer) Then there's those that do it only because they don't want to play a colored copy, usually because it's of higher collectible value. I'm not sure what to think, from experience color doesn't sound much different to me.
Best Answer well maybe. I mean "black" is the default color of vinyl.Maybe the chemical commpound used to change the color, effects the actual hardness of the material. If that's the case then yeah over time the sound quality would deminish , from the wearing down of the grooves. its a good question man i wish i knew the real answer. I'm sure it could be answered just not by me. it could just be that either side of the argument doesn't know what they are saying and just being stubborn to their views. it happens.

Question White vinyl records VS. Black vinyl records?
which ones are rarer? and what about colored vinyl?
Best Answer Just about all vinyl records you'll ever see are black. It's the standard colour and how it's usually pressed. Coloured vinyl (white, red, blue, etc) is more unusual. It's usually more expensive than it's traditional counterpart, in terms of production costs and how much you pay for it. But you can still find some coloured vinyl relatively cheaply - they don't all cost a fortune. It depends on how old they are, how in demand they are and the number that were printed.

I am thinking that I remember rare ones that came out in colors but don't remember which ones. The old ones I see are all black.
Best Answer There were many and many are still available. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unusual_types_of_gramophone_records Look under coloured vinyl.
